Hello All.
This is my first post.
I have today taken my first dose (10mg) of parnate after finally securing a psychiatrist with the expertise, experience, and willingness to prescribe an MAOI.
I would be interested to hear from anyone who's taking or has taken the drug about your experience of its efficacy, side-effects, as well as onset (and duration of sustained) therapeutic action.
I am in Australia and MAOIs are for the most part shunned, and for the most part on reasoning which, I have learnt, is questionable, complacently outdated, and patently otiose.
The tide, it seems, may be turning a bit in their favour. This may be partly attributable, I think, to the small but hardly negligible number of treatment-refactory patients whose patience for the average psychiatrist's obfuscation, evasion, and inadequate psychopharmacological learning has been sorely tested as we endure for years a debilitating condition in respect of whose treatment the effects of presently-orthodox modes of biological intervention have been underwhelming when not positively damaging.
I really am hoping, and I hope not fancifully, that the parnate will work when (in my case) moclobemide, sertraline, paroxetine, fluoxetine, amitriptyline, combination fluoxetine and amitriptyline, venlafaxine, combination venlafaxine and mirtazapine, duloxetine, combination duloxetine and olanzapine, nortriptyline, and combination nortriptyline and sertraline have all failed.
I have learnt a lot about MAOIs from the learned, analytical, engaging, and very generous Dr P.K. Gilman, whose site psychotropical.com is a rich resource which contains, for free, very well-reasoned and accessibly-articulated information on pharmacology.
