You can suspend email notifications while you're on vacation (and resume them when you're back).

Cancel email notifications

When you submit a message, you can ask to receive email notifications of follow-up posts. If you change your mind, you can cancel that feature. The cancellation procedure has two steps:

1. Each email notification gives you a cancellation URL. Go to that URL, making sure to enter it in one piece.

2. Enter your posting name and password. You should then stop receiving email notifications about that thread.

Log on and off

This site tries to flag for you the messages that have been posted since the last time you visited. This requires a "cookie" that's usually saved on your computer. If you switch computers or do something with that cookie, the wrong posts may be flagged.

To keep that from happening, you can leave your cookie with the server. When you leave, "log off" (save it on the server) and when you return, "log on" (restore it from the server).

If you don't switch computers or do anything with the cookie, you shouldn't need to log on or off.

BTW, this also allows you to transfer the cookie from the IP address to the domain name (or vice versa). Just connect one way, log off, connect the other way, and log on.
