I know all about that living in FL stuff too! I never did protect my skin back then and in fact went out of my way to get a tan. For awhile there I swear I was "tanorexic," thinking I was pale when I was actually so tan I looked silly. Which makes it even more surprising that I could end up with decent or even good skin at this point in the game.
I'll tell ya, that tretinoin/retin-a is also a godsend for someone who, um, sometimes slacks off on taking as good care of her/himself as they could or should. Even nothing but a swipe with a cotton pad & toner, then a layer of tretinoin, as my day's routine is enough to keep my skin completely clear.
Good luck finding that lightweight but "adherent" sunscreen!
