Rx and skincare obsessions...

I am permanently banned from buying new makeup or beauty supplies.

Here's the rub- I've got pretty bad acne. When it's under control I've got about 3 blemishes on any given day. When it's out of control. it's OUT of CONTrOl.

ugh

I would highly highly recommend that all of you folks out there consider getting an Rx for tretinoin (retin-a). There are many different strengths available. Basically it works by increasing collagen deep down in the dermis and by increasing cell turnover. It fades dark spots (like acne scars and sun spots) and my creases from clenching my eyebrows together is GONE.

I put on a pea size mixed with moisturizer and smoothe it all over my face and neck, and the back of my hands, permitting.

The other product I use is a combination of 10% glycolic (AHA) acid and 2% hydroquinone. Again- fades age spots, acne spots and makes my complexion glow. Keeps away the flakies too. over the counter at the derm's office, about 15 dollars, lasts a couple months.

Those two products I'd recommend to anybody. Wear sunscreen though, because they increase sensitivity to sun. Why pay so much money for retinol products if your health insurance will cover your wrinkle (and acne) cure?

On days when my skin feels "normal, flaky or dry" I use principal secret (yes. I ordered it from TV) 'reclaim' line. It's mild and has really gentle and rich moisturizers. good creamy cleanser, GREAT night cream and it doesn't cause or aggravate breakouts. On difficult days I use neutrogena cleansing gel with 2% salicylic acid. gentle but better at deep pore cleansing.

the simple washcloth works wonders.

mineral foundation- I love it, but usually need concealer to hide the boo boos. my favorite concealer is the palette from Sonia Kashuk at Target. I'm about to run out of my second one. Having different colors to blend really helps, because I can't use the same shade to hide eye purplies AND blemish blotchies.

While moving I noticed that I had amassed roughly 10 cubic feet of shower/face/hair products and related accoutrements. Now I must halt the buying spree and use what I have (sigh)...
