The mind is a powerful builder of reality. Our mind can effect the production of brain chemistry and then it continues to loop around for a while producing more homeostatic or similar type frequency and hormones.

The "Ask and It Is Given" book is really nuts and bolts advice on reading your current emotional state. It is not "airy fairy" stuff about affirmations. The problem with affirmations is this, if you don't really believe the sh*t you tell yourself, at a subconscious level or block it consciously from reaching the subconscious, it aint gonna help. You know when someone is giving you a fake compliment, because you can sense it. It is the same with feeding ourselves things that don't feel quite true.

What is more important is this: Within you there is a very sophisticated emotional truth meter. We are born with an emotional navigational system. We have been trained to ignore it. Sometimes it may make us feel bad and anxious too, so we run and escape. We escape anyway we can...there are many ways to do that.

When you feel hopeless, sad, anxious, fearful it means you are not perceiving and believing the truth for you. The best thing is to detach and just relax a bit, ask that the truth for you will take the place of the thoughts that are disturbing.

It takes some skill and practice, via mediation to start becoming aware of better feeling realities and thoughts. I don't force any of this, I just relax and receive this from a deeper place within.

I think reading that book is the best plan, it is very helpful for me.
