According to my pdoc Xanax does have a small AD effect. He believes the XR will be very beneficial, because you can actually take less and gain a greater therapeutic effect. For example, .25 Xanax three times a day might be roughly equal to .5 once a day. It's a question of blood level. Personally, having tried lots of SSRIs, Buspar, etc. for anxiety, I can assure you that Xanax is the best. Also, he prefers Xanax over Klonopin for anxiety disorders. Lastly, he regards benzophobes to be nitwits.
