Wellbutrin day 6- I wanna sit in a corner and cry.

Posted by mellymel_d on September 11, 2005, at 23:16:18

I expected that the wellbutin would kick up my anxiety, which I've dealt with thanks to my xanex but what I didn't expect was this overwhelming feeling of depression...I'm still on lexapro 10mgs and I'm on WB 150mgs, should I discuss upping the dose with my doc? Has anybody been succesful on the 150mgs? I feel so hopeless right now. I'm so tired of all of this. I'm trying so hard to do the self help stuff and therapy (still) but this just seems worse than it was before. Has anybody experienced this as a temporary side effect? When will it end? HELP

I hoped I would wake up and feel different. But no, I still feel unmotivated and ready to cry at the drop of a hat. Somebody please share their experience with me and if this is normal. I've googled and haven't come across people feeling more depressed at first, just jittery, etc...

Hi,

I've not taken Wellbutrin before but I'm sure there is somebody on this board who can advise.

Are you sure its not just the depression and not the wellbutrin? Have you had crying spells ever before taking the wellbutrin? or only since taking it.

I'm really sorry to hear your feeling bad, I know how it feels although I don't tend to cry with my depression just get really agitated and start pacing around a lot.

What else are you taking with the Wellbutrin apart from the Xanax?

Denise

My experience and the small amount of research I did when starting Wellbutrin seem to indicate that WB kicks in more quickly than other ADs. For me, by day 10 on it, I was singing while cooking breakfast, pretty much a sure sign an AD is working. (Pity my husband -- I can sing in multiple wrong keys at once, and can't carry a tune if you put a handle on it and handcuff it to my wrist.) As I remember, I was on 150mg for one week, then 300mg for a couple of days. This was Wellbutrin XL, by the way. And I was already on Cymbalta, so the WB was for augmentation since that wasn't doing the job.

It sounds as though you're in a lot of pain right now, and it must be hard to think about hanging in for a while longer to see if it kicks in. I guess my advice, based only on my own experiences with starting meds, is to see if you can stick it out for another couple of weeks, but call your pdoc today to discuss this and see about getting a quick appointment for evaluating whether it's worth continuing this trial.

Wellbutrin XL is my friend, and I hope that it will turn out to be your friend, too. If not, though, I hope that something more successful is substituted for you soonest.

Thanks Denise for your response. i'm also on 10mgs of lexapro at night. I'm not sure if it's the wellbutrin or depression. I have experienced crying spells before but I feel so unmotivated and depressed right now. I don't want to do anything. I just want to know if this will go away soon..

Thanks Racer. I look forward to singing again soon :-) I'm going to call my doc and find out when can I move up to 300mgs so I don't have to keep going through these side effects (if thats what they are) over and over again...

I'm just so tired of crying over nothing. I feel like my heart hurts right now from saddness and I hate that my kids see me like this.

Wellbutrin made me feel worse than any med I've ever tried. Within hours of the first dose I felt so bad, wanted to hide in a corner, it not only took what little motivation I had away, but actually sent it deep in the negative, and I didn't want to have to face another person. I actually can't even find the words to describe how bad it was.

I've tried it probably 5 different times over the years, and each time was gruesome. I never made it past the first day. I would never ever stay with a med that makes me feel so much worse right away. It does something to dopamine that is not good for me.

Hi,

That's exactly what I'd do, why continue to suffer on 150mg of Wellbutrin, you may as well up the dose to 300mg, you've nothing to lose, you'll either carry on feeling bad or hopefully feel better on it.

Is there anything else you can take (like klonopin or something) just to get you through this until you find something that works?

Also, how long have you been on 10mg of Lexapo? Istn't that quite a low dose?

Kind Regards.....Denise

Good Morning Denise,

I do take xanex to help take the edge off when needed (seems like it's been needed everyday lately)

I've been on lexapro about a year and a half, I was on 40mgs for quite some time and it did well. However I was in a bad car accident back in the end of March, I've been off work ever since and still have bad nerve damage in my left leg (I've lost feeling in half of my leg) I think this attributed to the depression becoming worse. I used to only have anxiety real bad and didn't have to deal with the depression aspect. Well needless to say the lexapro wasn't working for the depression so the doc wanted to wean me off and give me something that would deal with both. However I needed something before I got completely off. In comes the effexor- BAD IDEA. The effexor was horrible for me. I was on 75mgs for 2 weeks then up to 150mg and still was horrible. So I told my doc I needed something else so she weaned me off that for about a week and started me on wellbutrin 1 week ago. I have to say the wb s/e's are nothing compared to the effexor because they are very different for me. However, I wasn't crying daily on the effexor.

Well today's a new day. I just took my dose of wb and will put a call into the doc today. I'm praying for something to work soon. I'm so sad. :-(

If you were in a car accident like that so recently, have you considered that some of your trouble just now is PTSD? An event like that can trigger symptoms, and early therapy can help a lot to reduce them.

As for meds, I don't know what else to say beyond best luck, and I hope that it improves soonest.

Yes- thank you. I have been in therapy and she says the same thing. I believe it did trigger and I'm working very hard to get past it. I get anxiety all the time when I drive now. I think everybody's going to hit me. And since the accident did so much physical damage - I think the depression is stemming from there too. I do hope the wb helps me battle this. I'm tired of being sad, being in pain, complaining, crying, and having anxiety...

Thanks for your posts- they mean the world to me...

Just as a musing thought, have you tried Cymbalta? It's good for pain, as many here will attest, and might help with both the depression and some of the physical symptoms.

Also, I have nerve damage from a car accident, too. One leg has large areas that I can't feel particularly well. My trainer used to move both my legs where she wanted them, and the damaged leg would just stay. The other leg, though, I'd yell as she pulled it where she wanted it and then it would move back as soon as I started riding again! At this point, I'm so used to the problem that it really isn't a problem. I guess what I'm saying is that it doesn't stay such a problem after a while.

Good luck.

Wellbutrin might end up working for you, but I had a horrible experience with it.

I couldn't sleep nor eat while I was on it. It thrust me into the weirdest anxious state- it made my brain hurt.

My main problem is anxiety though so Wellbutrin was not for me..

I do know a friend who is on it and it has worked wonders for her (her main problem is depression).

I hope you feel relief soon. I said a prayer for you as I read through your posts.

(((hugs)))
