Hey Jeroen,
I can see you are hurting a lot, hang in there. ed_uk or Phillipa will write to you as soon as they see they see your message. In the mean time, do you want to talk about it? I know it must hurt a lot right now, but talking helps, even if it's just a little bit. You can post right here or email me:

Really hoping you'll write again. Hang in there.

Hey! I don't think Ed has been around lately - at least he hasn't posted anything in the last couple of days. Is there something in your med regimen that you are concerned about, like you think it might have caused the panic attack, or do you think it was purely triggered by something psychological? You could perhaps start a new thread? Or talk to a doc about it?
Maybe more experienced people could then comment on it. I guess if you're in Europe (you sound European - I hazard a guess you're in Germany or maybe Denmark/Sweden/Norway??! but I'm being too nosey now!!) like me, then its afternoon now and the Americans and Canadians are just waking up. They might be able to answer you.......

Kind regards

All the meds we take are so weird. Can't tell what will happen. Here's some thoughts though.

A double dose of seroxat would make me have a worse panic attack or worse anxiety. It works over weeks and months to lessen anxiety, but usually actually increases anxiety when you first start taking it or when you increase the dose. Taking a double dose expecting immediate results will probably do the opposite of what you want.

Seroquel might need to be switched to something else like zyprexa. Here's what I was thinking...seroxat has a little bit of norepinephrine reuptake inhibition to it...it increases norepinephrine. Seroquel antagonizes norepinephrine receptors in a way that causes more norepinephrine to be released. So with both drugs combined, you are getting a lot of stimulation from increased norepinephrine, which would bring on anxiety and panic attacks for many people. I mentioned zyprexa because you could do a straight across switch to it, and it does not antagonize norepinephrine receptors like seroquel does.

And you could increase the dose of tranxene or try another one from that same class. If you have another panic attack and you think about taking a double dose of anything, I would take a double dose of the tranxene, not seroxat. I think the problem is not really the seroxat or the seroquel, but the combination of the two...too much over stimulation from the norepinephrine. Just my thoughts though.

Hi J

I'm sorry to hear about your panic attack :-(

>i worked hard

Do you think the stress triggered the panic attack?

>my heart racing again, believe im dying

What other symptoms did you have? I think you should call your doctor to discuss what happened.

Unfortunately, many people who suffer from panic disorder have occasional anxiety attacks, even when their medication is working well.

Seroxat is often very effective for panic disorder. It doesn't usually 'poop out' so long as your take it regularly on a daily basis. Be sure to take it at the same time every day in order to get the best effect.

Despite your panic attack, Seroxat IS still working! Even while you're taking medication, panic attacks can sometimes happen. Ask your doctor for a few 5 mg diazepam (Valium) tablets, ONE or TWO tablets can be taken *when required* for a panic attack. Diazepam works quickly - it's a good med to carry around with you in case you have a panic attack.

>double dosis seroxat

Don't do that! With Seroxat, sudden large increases in dose can worsen your anxiety (in the short term).

>30mg Seroxat

If you're worried, you could ask your doctor to increase your Seroxat dose to 40mg. 40mg often seems to work a bit better than 30mg for panic disorder.

>Vitamin E

Are you still taking it? Despite the problems you had at the high dose, a small dose might still be beneficial :-)

>Getting off Seroquel

So you take 100mg in the morning and 400mg at night?

If your doctor agress, you can get a prescription for the 25mg tablets. You can reduce the dose safely in steps of 25mg.

For example....

You could take 100mg in the morning and 375mg at night tomorrow.

Warm regards

Ed

PS. What dose of Tranxene are you taking? Do you take it everyday?

PPS. Please answer all my questions - I can help you if you do :-)

hi ed, how r u? im currently stopping the tranxene 15mg cold turkey after 8 months twice daily, and i feel more like myself at this moment but im scared. im want not to stop seroquel entire, i want to take 100 mg twice daily, because at that dose i felt good now im on 400mg before bedtime and 100 mg at morning, its sedative.

ED IS reducing 50 mg a week safe like 350mg then second week 300 mg or can i do it faster? PLEASE I NEED YOUR ADVICE ON THIS

my nystagmus is worser but i feel at this moment much better because of stopping tranxene 15 mg.

i believe seroquel is causing pannick attacks while combining it with seroxat.

> hi ed, how r u? im currently stopping the tranxene 15mg cold turkey after 8 months twice daily, and i feel more like myself at this moment but im scared.

I hate to speak in Ed's place, but I'll give you my best advice. First, I think you would be wiser to reduce the tranxene dose more slowly than your cold turkey process. You won't feel symptoms right away, but around the third day, you will very much feel the withdrawal. It has a long half-life, but a powerful withdrawal syndrome. Just the same as withdrawing from Valium, diazepam, because both Tranxene and Valium metabolize to nordiazepam. So, I suggest a similar withdrawal schedule.

Take 15 mg a day for a week, and if you feel okay, take 15 mg every other day for two weeks. If that's okay, then empty out half the capsule and take one every other day for two weeks. Then you're done with tranxene. That's my advice.

That is the maximum rate you can reduce it, in my opinion. Reduce by 50 mg, after a week. 50 mg each week. No faster.

Did you try the vitamin E with vitamin C, like I suggested?

at 50 mg decrease each week

I never mentioned calcium, so I don't about that.

The danger is that you may suffer unpleasant withdrawal symptoms, such as nausea, insomnia and increased anxiety.

Hi J

Now that you're on Seroxat, you might not need the Tranxene anymore. Even so, Tranxene should be tapered gradually. Stopping it abruptly was not a good idea!

>ED IS reducing 50 mg a week safe like 350mg then second week 300 mg or can i do it faster? PLEASE I NEED YOUR ADVICE ON THIS

Different people need to taper at different rates. I would recommend that you reduce the dose in steps of 25mg. Don't rush!

Jeroen, I warned you about not going cold turkey on the tranxene, and that the onset of side effects would be a little delayed. You'd feel good for a day, maybe two, and then Bang!

Just take some tranxene. 15 mg, right now. Please?

Dear J

Larry is right, you can't come off Tranxene abruptly, it's very important to reduce the dose gradually if you want to come off it. Take a dose of Tranxene as soon as possible.

>MY TD HAS GOTTEN WORSE SINCE I WITHDRAW FROM TRANXENE

Not permanently though. Tranxene tends to suppress the symptoms of TD. Abrupt withdrawal of Tranxene will temporarily aggravate your symptoms. A slow taper is vital.

Take a dose of Tranxene tonight, or even two doses if you feel you need it. I'm sorry you're feeling so bad :-(

Abrupt withdrawal of Tranxene can cause depression and anxiety. You'll feel better after you've taken your dose.

Kind regards

Ed

Can you get a prescription? With Tranxene, it can take a few days for the withdrawal symptoms to appear. It would be a good idea to have an 'emergency supply' of Tranxene just in case you get any withdrawal symptoms.
