My dog has allergies and actually takes "people meds" like claritin, for it. LOL It can be food, but more common is the indoor and outdoor allergies that plague a lot of us. Some breeds are more proned to it. My dog also has to have certain shampoos too or he will break out into a iching fit actually iching until he draws sores and blood. I have to bring my own that I got from my vet,with me when I take him in to be groomed. Good luck.
