hey yxibow.
very good point. i agree different cultures make the difference. in many cultures marriage happens at 14/15. and is more than culturally acceptable. i think it definately has to do with family values/cultures and maturity. i think mostly in the US it is 18 but i must say that most of my friends were having sex way before then and honestly though some of their decisions were hastey i think the decision could be made and should be made by that person.
and ya, i've heard the 2 year age difference too. unfortunately i think (for example) if there is a 16 yr girl and an 18 yr boy that boy is still able to serve jail time for statutory rape since he is over 18 and she is not (please tell me if i'm understanding that incorrectly), even though there are only 2 years difference, she is still under 18. i just wish there was a better way to work through this because i think there are a lot of guys out there that get pegged as 'sex offenders' because of this law.(see example above).
however, there are 19 year olds that 'prey' on those under 18 and should be able to convict them.
so i think this is a sketchy area all together.no more thoughts on this subject. but good points all around.
good input.
