Aw-w-w! Poor little thing! That's not cool at all!
However, teachers have been making students write lines as punishment for time out of mind, and they always make them write something they think they should learn. (I will not talk in class. I will not talk in class. I will not talk in class.) I doubt the teacher actually meant for the scripture 'itself' to be punishment. I think its just unfortunate that it came across that way. That's my take on it anyway.
