I find that there are many times when I just need to be alone and quiet. It's not withdrawal or avoidance, I just need less stimulation. But the rest of the people wonder what's wrong with you, because they are not overstim'd.

Like why is the TV volume making me so agitated? etc. Why do I always feel like I need a "mental health" day, even after a weekend (answer: my husband is home and I need time truly to be alone.)

Wow – that is exactly me. My husband travels a bit for work and while sometimes I hate to admit it, I so look forward to some of those days (especially the time after my son is in bed each night). I’ve always said that I “need” time to myself even if I’m doing nothing. And don’t tell my boss, but I just took a mental health day this week. Although it didn’t help much. I feel like I need another.

And please don’t get me started on the TV volume. I should have listed this as my biggest pet peeve. I swore growing up that my sisters were deaf. It always seemed they had the volume up way too high. Thankfully, when my husband wants to watch something important (i.e. sports) he can watch it in the basement and he doesn’t have to worry about me telling him to turn it down.

Anyway, thanks for the response. I think I’ll get the general book and I should probably even read that one before the work one. I think it will help me to understand where they’re coming from a little more.

--Ugh! Journey is his favorite band? Hmm, I’ll have to add that to my list of tidbits to remember while choosing my favorite candidate. Unfortunately for Mr. Clark, my ex-husband absolutely loved Journey. I heard way too much of them during some tumultuous years. Now, if he would have said The Pet Shop Boys, that’s another story altogether… ; )
