I heard on the health news yesterday that a compound found in brocolli heals ulcers. I turned to my son who was listening & said "I've read something like that 30 years ago but it was discounted because it came from a nutritionist."
Thirty years ago, it was found that a compound in raw cabbage would cure ulcers. Cabbage, itself, is too 'rough' but if a person extracted the juice & drank it for a couple of days, their ulcer was cured. It was called 'vitmain U' for it's ulcer healing properties. Very, very few believed it.
Now it's discovered that this compound in all members of the brassicae family (like brocolli, cabbage, Brussel sprouts, etc) kills the bacteria, Heliobacter pylori, that causes ulcers in suspectible people.
Next time, reach for a glass of cabbage juice. :-)
