Yes I have taken xanax for many years and have not developed tolerance to it. I was told by a very famous psychopharmacologist recently that it was a very good medicine for me and to stay on it and come back when I'm "80" and then think about tapering off it! Hope this helps.
I take 1.75 - 2mg. per day, (was on 3mg. previously). Do not take more than 3mg if possible, less is much better IMO.
