What you describe could be related to sleep deprivation. As a grad student, I know that the older I get, the more negative effects I feel from lack of sleep and from not eating right. Certainly school is demanding enough to cause physical and psychological difficulty, especially if you are sensitive to these demands. However, your sudden onset is worth investigating medically. You may want to consider getting a check up with your physician in addition to seeing your pdoc, in order to rule out reversible stuff.
Sorry to hear about your troubles. Sometimes it's more of a pain in the butt being bright than it's worth. It adds to the pressure. Please take care of yourself and let us know how you are doing.
