McPac, Amie Sans Vi, gingersnap, John, David:

Thanks to all of you. I really appreciate the feedback. I will look into everything you've said. I've read a lot of the books out there on natural treatments for mood disorders, including Lesser's The Brain Chemistry Plan (just got it last month from Amazon). The difficulty for me is that I am cautious and timid about taking both pharmaceuticals (even though I've taken my share of those) and "natural" supplements (even though I've experimented haphazardly with fish oil, SAM-e, St. John's and all the other popular anti-anxiety herbs). All I can say is that I wish I didn't have to deal with this damn condition! I did have a couple of specific questions, if anyone comes back to read this.

Amie Sans Vi: Do you actually take all of those supplements right now? If so, how do you know which ones are having the effect? Also, I feel like a ping-pong ball going between "alternative" and "traditional" doctors. Many (not all) traditional doctors I've seen are extremely skeptical/cautious about supplements and amino acids. While, of course, the pro-supplement people I've consulted tend to be way anti-pharmaceutical. I have no, no, no idea if it's safer to take SSRIs, supplements, or if both just have their pros and cons. I know this is a personal issue I have to work out myself, but I'm just wondering how you (and/or others) worked it out.

Again, thanks and best wishes to all.

Chris
