Andrea, I can tell you a little about SAMe- I don't know a huge amount. SAMe stands for S-adenosyl methionine. It is a naturally occuring substance. According to a Newsweek article (3-22-99), it has been used for decades in Europe to treat arthritis and depression. When combined with B vitamins it donates a methyl group and boosts the production of dopamine and serotonin. It apparently can work very quickly (within a couple of days) to relieve depression. There tend to be few or no side effects. SAMe just recently became available in drug and natural food stores. I'm still trying to find the cheapest place to get it. Hope this helps. Anyone with more info?
Peter
