This is often stated. I suspect it's due to the fact that a) benzos generally tend to be more effective for anxiety than is BuSpar and b) benzos work much more quickly than does BuSpar. So, those that have experienced relief with benzos are likely to be less satisfied with what they get from BuSpar.

I don't think it's an issue of BuSpar's chemical effects on the brain being altered by the previous use of benzos or anything. Rather, I think it's an issue of patient perception.
