Ways my cat is helping me

Posted by Partlycloudy on September 8, 2008, at 13:18:06

She's been following me pretty closely lately, especially since my step daughter vacated the premises. It's cleared the air of quite a bit of tension, and my cat keeps finding ways of thanking me.

Every time I walk into the bedroom, if she's lying on the floor, she'll flip on to her back and start to writhe and purr, apparently in sheer joy at the sight of me. She likes for me to get on my hands and knees (that is, not talk down to her), and give her a really good scritching around her ears. If I'm not quite in the right spot, she'll use her paws to move my hand to the correct place. When she's had enough joy she miraculously springs onto her fours paws at the same time and trots away, quite satisfied with herself.

She'll follow me all around the house, but really loves the bathrooms, where she can get fresh running water. This is far superior to the standing, inferior junk that sits in her bowl all day long and only gets changed once a day - ugh. She much prefers to stick her head under a trickle of tap water and let it drip off the end of her nose on to her lapping tongue; or she'll hold out her paw and lap up the water that falls off the end there. The performance is not complete until she jumps off the counter and then shakes the droplets off, and then runs away as fast as she can, perhaps surprised that she's just realized that she let herself get we and that cats aren't supposed to like water.

Her favorite place to hang out is the end of the sofa where I like to sit and read. It's important that she be within my arm's reach, because the whole idea is that she'll stare at me until I realize that she wants me to pet her. Actually, she wants me to tickle the end of her nose, which is kind of unusual for a cat, but she loves it. She even slobbers a little bit, highly undignified for a cat, but we don't tell on her, will we?

The other place she'll hang out is on the floor beside my feet, pretending that she's a dog.

You are so lucky to have a cat like that that loves you and cares about you so much.
I love my cats, but they are not well...attention loving lol...
I hope you are ok...getting through all this.
Thank God for kitties

That's the nicest thing I've read all day!!!!

I want to come back in my next life as a dotty old rich lady's cat. With like, my own furniture, scaled to size and everything.

My cat is a belly presenter too! I don't know what I would have done these last few years without him. Seriously. He's going to wonder what happened when I go back to work and am not here 24/7.

I recently made him a fort in the living room and he loves it. He's also recently started using his bed I bought him after 2 years of ignoring it. I have it, the fort, some of his toys, and cardboard to scratch on in one corner, and I think he realizes that's his special space. I just discovered he loves to scratch cardboard. Much cheaper than the other things I've bought him for that purpose!

Not cosmetically appealing but mine has a cardboard box with a piece of rug on top in front of the window to lie on. He has an official cat bed scatching post but never uses it. My pups follow Greg all the time not me and they are mine. Not fair. One loves her belly scratched with a wire brush. Phillipa

My cat LOVES her cardboard scratching pad. It's her fave spot for her early morning and late evening naps (not to be confused with the mid-morning and early afternoon naps). I sprinkle catnip on it and she goes to town. She's not the least bit interested in scratching the furniture.

Wish I had known about these devices when I had my two male cats, Rocky and Bullwinkle. I pretty much gave my enormous sectional over to them to shred - world's biggest scratching pad ever :-( Nothing ever deterred them.

I'm pretty happy to have started a cat thread...

My animals help me in countless ways. I am grateful that each and every one of them came into my life.

They are hilarious, and manage to find joy in the simplest of things.

All strays, they each bring their own personality, charm and energy to my life. I simply can not fathom that these little lives were once considered throw aways.

Agreed! All my kitties have come from shelters. This is the first one that I adopted as an adult cat. She was so timid. It took a good year and a half for her to trust us enough to jump up our laps for a quick cuddle, and so I always consider it to be a real gift when she does it. And her purr is very sincere sounding. I love it when she squints at me - I'm pretty sure that means "I Love You" in cat speak.

Dave!!! You're back! Quick - go to the RSPCA and get yourself a cat - that's the sure cure and you'll be giving a deserving kitty a wonderful, loving home.

I have a psycho kitty as well. When i first met her she was up in the rafters of my barn (I get more cats out of barns).

She was so feral that she wouldn't get near me at all. I had to put food in the rafters. It took weeks for her to just eat on the floor of the barn.

She sleeps on the pillow next to me now.

I have a cat too. He always helps me deal with
depression and anxiety! And I think he really
enjoys when I pet him in certain ways. One thing
he does is a "head but"...we bounce our heads
off one another.

He really likes to sit on the patio and see if
there are birds or other animals to look at.

cheers,
Jamie

I'm always amazed at how cats and horses get along, although I guess they are really good at getting out of the way :-)

A couple of days ago I found out my cat has a tickle spot like a dog - the leg starts going...

They've saved my sanity (and sobriety) many times.

Right now I have 5 in my house. My youngest evacuated today (she lives by the coast) and brought hers...

Can there be too much of a good thing?

Woo hoo! It's a party - I enticed Auntie Mel to post on a thread :-)

Cat lovers uniting for mental health. It's a good thing.

(Nice to see you here, Mel.)

And to answer your question, the only time there can be too many cats is when their litter boxes are full and stinky!
