My cat LOVES her cardboard scratching pad. It's her fave spot for her early morning and late evening naps (not to be confused with the mid-morning and early afternoon naps). I sprinkle catnip on it and she goes to town. She's not the least bit interested in scratching the furniture.
Wish I had known about these devices when I had my two male cats, Rocky and Bullwinkle. I pretty much gave my enormous sectional over to them to shred - world's biggest scratching pad ever :-( Nothing ever deterred them.
I'm pretty happy to have started a cat thread...
