Good luck with that! Technically, I don't think you have to have a passport even in deepest Mexico unless you don't have any other good ID such as your original Social Security card and a valid state driver's license (even a voter's registration card!). I have been to Mexico 4 times in the past 5 years, and NEVER have even had to pull out my driver's license. Unless things have changed recently.

Bolivia is in South America just north of Argentina, east of Chile and Peru, south of Columbia, borders Brazil on its east. It is the poorest Latin American country, with the average salary about $230 U.S. However, of all the Latin countries I have visited, I felt the most welcomed there. I don't mean to denigrate anyone, so please don't anyone from Uruguay or Chile rise up in protest We stayed in Cochabamba, a city of about 500,000. Visited the Cristo (which is taller than the one in Rio De Janeiro, though I had never heard of it before), and got to go about 17,000 feet up Mt. Tunari, almost to the snow cap (it was summer there, by the way). It was one of the most beautiful places I have been on this earth (Mt. Tunari). Got to chew some coca leaf, drink "original formula" Coca-Cola, yes THAT formula (although I didn't even discover that until about a day before we left). If was one of those "frozen in time" moments for me that was, well, spiritual. But you DO need a passport.
Thanks for asking!

Oh yes! It was definitely a refreshment for my spirit, and helped clear my mind. I tell you, when I was standing on top of Mt. Tunari, there was not a sound except the wind. I could see sheep and llamas about a mile across on the next hill. I literally could see the clouds and the top of the mountain touch (it was not fog). It was, perhaps, the most peaceful time I have had in my entire life. There was not one single thing on my mind except how beautiful the sights were. I wish I could have bottled that up somehow for future use! No, if you ever get the chance, GO!

Lake Powell, Zion Canyon, Kodachrome Basin. I think Southern Utah is one of the most beautiful and most peaceful places on earth. (Though I'm not a world traveller, I've been to Germany, Hungary, Austria, Italy, Switzerland, Ireland, and Mexico. Utah still ranks!)

It sounds wonderful!! We've spent our last few holidays in SOuth East Asia.. first we went to Malaysian Borneo, and it was amazing. We went trecking in the rain forests on Mount Kinabalu and it was amazing.. we saw no other people, just birds and monkeys and snakes and frogs..
Last 2 years we've been to Thailand.. we have totally fallen in love with an island there.. totally off the tourist trail - no running water, no proper electricity.. just total escapism. I often got up to sit on the beach, totally alone to watch the sunrise. I loved that peace.. We're hoping to go back for Christmas and New Year this year.. We have many friends on the island so I think this would be great!! The island is small, but has so much on it.. even a little mountain!! And swimming with sharks in one of the bays is the most awesome adrenalin rush!

I love the peace of escapism!

That might be part of it, escapism. I mean, while I was there in Bolivia, the rest of my miserable life was 5,000 miles away and 17,000 feet below. Maybe there is something in being a hermit that mainstream culture has passed by. Hmmmmmm.......OK, I guess that opens the door to Eastern mysticism and meditation. I have been told that deep meditation bordering on self-hypnosis can be an effective treatment for depression and stress and the stuff of this 10,000 mile per hour lifestyle we live in.

Personally,
I'll take Bolivia and the points.

Hello, sinnea,

Sounds like your feeling better! WONDEFUL!!

I had to redo the passport thing this last
year.

I hadnt renewed it since my years in Barranquilla, Columbia.
I was with the WHO for three years and I loved
going to Cartagenia with my husband for long
weekends. I always said I would return but now I probably never will.

If you go dont forget to see The Panana Canal.
The magnatitude of this human creation is truly
awesome.

I had friends who came to see us while we were
there who came down on a cruise boat.I was
able to take some time off and show them all the
wonderful places to see and where to avoid.

These days the drug lords are not as descret as
they were back in the 1980s.
Now safety is an issue and never going anywhere without someone with you esp someone who speaks Spanish could really be trouble.

Have you considered a cruise? The cruise people are in a buyer market now and they have wonderful packages that dont cost a bundle esp. if youre not terribly picky about your sleeping quarters, you can get a fabulous deal!
(I am told you never spend anytime in your quarters any way except to shower, change clothes and sleep.)

Keep us posted on your efforts for the passport. (Dont worry.. all the pictures on passports always look like they belong hanging in the post office..LOL)

Thanks, Sienna. This time it is so wierd. All the usual strategies come up with nothing!! I have retraced my steps, checked all my pants pockets, check the parking lot where I was parked, checked the car, looked behind, under, on, over, etc. everything at home, in the car, and at work, asked people, etc. etc. Who knows?

I had this ring that my grandmother gave me when I was 8. It was my birthstone and I needed an adjustor for the first 5 years because it was too big. But I wore it pretty consistently for the next 30 years. During that time, I lost it a number of times, each time I thought "FOR GOOD" because I couldn't find it anywhere. And guess what? It would turn up in the most unlikely places weeks, months, even as much as a year or more later! I got to feeling pretty overconfident about the ring not being able to be lost.

Then, I went to the beach for a vacation with my sister. I was putting on some sunscreen and took the ring off while I slathered. I lay down in the sun, read a while, and then went in the water, came back, etc. and then remembered the ring. We did a full out beach combing operation--all the other beach goers were helping! But we couldn't find it. That was it. The final one. Lost for good. Sigh.

Obviously, my keys are not nearly as precious. They are replaceable. It just bothers me, that's all.

Thanks for reminding me--I need to renew my passport. I was hoping to go away this spring but it has to be postponed for a number of reasons (money shortage, father's illness, war), but it occurred to me that as I start to think about when I will go a-travelin, I will need that passport ready and waiting. Thanks!

Hmm... now where is the old one?

This calls for a reenactment.

OK, Sienna, you have to stand exactly where you were, holding something about the size of your passport, visualizing the room about like it was in terms of furniture/piles of papers/etc., and get into a zone where you can role play the situation (being both you and the cleaning helping person). You stand like you stood, you start where you found it, you repeat the dialog, down to the last detail you can remember...all the way thru to putting it away.

You may have to do it several times, but it could work. It's important to get into the zone, tho.

Next....hypnosis.

Hello Noa,

Im sorry your keys are giving you such a bad time.
Im kind of glad that Im not the only one who seems to misplace my keys from time to time.
I usually have to go through couch cushions, have my hubby look behind the big furniture and root through the van.

Usually when this happens to me its because I was dont something 'out of character for me'. (Soomething that is not part of my daily routine).

One time I was frantic because I had lost my work keys. This was like 40 keys that would have cost me personally a bundle to have to replace.
I had stopped to help a friend at work by holding their baby so they could load some things in their car. I let her baby play with the key ring because it had a flashing turtle light on it( I collect turtle things) and she took the key ring and laid it down so I could had her the baby to put her in her car seat.( Hug them at home and Belt them in the car...)
She shut the rear door of her van when I was playing with her baby and drove off with my keys in her van.
Thank goodness that I had my cell phone and her cell phone number in my address book. She came right back and we both laughed.
I dont know what I would have done. My mobility chair and my van are my independence.

So...have you done something or been somewhere lately that you dont normally do?

Just trying to help....

AHA!! I did do something out of routine the day I lost them!! Thank you!

It was a colleague's birthday and we were doing a little celebration and my job was getting flowers. I had meant to get them on the way to work, but was running late, so I dashed out the the supermarket just before lunchtime to pick up a bunch of cheap flowers (that turned out to not be as cheap as I'd hoped!). I'm off to call the super market as soon as I log off. I'll keep you posted!!

I forgot about that, although it did occur to me that I lost them somewhwere in the process of coming and going because it was when I returned that I noticed I had no keys.

Thanks!!
