Yes, you should finish it. If you'd like someone to proof read it, I'm up for the job.

Kelly-
I agree that you should write this book. My mother wrote a book (not published) after my brother was killed, and it visibly helped relieve her of some of the grief, horror and anger that was consuming her. Writing can be very therapeutic
and if your book is published, so much the better.
If you're determined to do a professional job, I would suggest taking a class or reading one of the many good books available on producing polished, quality (publishable)writing, and I would also take up John on his very generous offer. Keep us updated, and good luck.

That depends. Reading a file like that could be very helpful, but it could also be very upsetting. Are you in a situation right now where you can handle it?

A long time ago, I requested my file from the hospital I had been at (for about a week) a decade before. When I read it, it enraged me. I was surprised by my reaction. It was quite upsetting. I did get over it, but it took some work to get through it.

I agree with Noa about your doctor's file. Why do you want to see it anyway? I doubt it would do you much good and may just upset you.

Well I asked my Dr. today about my file he doesn't think it well do me any good to read it,that it could make me feel worst then I already feel.My husband said that it's better to write from your own thoughts anyway.
Thank you john I might take you up on your offer, you might be old & gray the time I'm done lote of things happen to me in my life.

I agree---what is interesting about first person accounts is that they are written from the unique perspective of the person. Medical records don't really express your experience at all.

Kelly, what about writing your story as a series of stories---like breaking the whole thing down into periods of time, or significant episodes, etc. Then it can be brought together in the end, but in the meantime, you can start to feel a sense of accomplishment along the way, and have someone read your work for editing purposes, as you go?
