I agree---what is interesting about first person accounts is that they are written from the unique perspective of the person. Medical records don't really express your experience at all.

Kelly, what about writing your story as a series of stories---like breaking the whole thing down into periods of time, or significant episodes, etc. Then it can be brought together in the end, but in the meantime, you can start to feel a sense of accomplishment along the way, and have someone read your work for editing purposes, as you go?
