metabolite of nicotine an antidepressant?

Posted by linkadge on February 28, 2015, at 9:29:29

Cotinine, a metabolite of nicotine is apparently active as an antidepressant. It has been sold under the brand name "Scotine". I have never heard of this. Is it only available in certain countries?

the same has been suggested about nicotine itself. tho yeah, theres the problem of addiction.

tho ive been an inpatient a few times, and each time
a strong majority of the other peoole staying as inpatients smoked. so i guess its either the negative effects of smoking make the AD effects of Nicotine or its metabolites less effective. Or in spite of the short term benefits they receive from Nicotine or Cotinine, it ends up not being beneficial, at least for these patients.

ive just always figured nicotine, and i dont know cotinines mechanism of action but im.guessing its much like nicotines, ends up causimg the brain to adapt to their effects over time, causing ones plasure centers in their brain to be responsive to normally pleasurable activities, and rely on nicotine for pleasure.
