Dr Bob is on another planet. Watering the grass while the house is burning down.

I mean, what's up doc? You know people are concerned about several issues here. Most have spent years here and....you aren't psycho babble, we are.

Without us you'd be staring at a blank screen wondering what if. We aren't your patients, we're your teacher. I've respected you, others the same, quid pro quo.

I don't think that's fair Ron. I was shocked to come back to this thread this evening having noticed what was clearly a computer glitch this morning. My first reaction was that people were way more nuts than I realized. It took awhile for me to remember that what is an obvious computer problem to me and to bob (and to you also?) would not be obvious to everyone. I wish now that I'd spelled that out when I made my test post.

Posts are "disappeared" on psych central. As are posters. It's not a public process there so who knows why.

OK, I think the posts here now are the posts that should be here now. Sorry again about the f*ck-up.

It's true, I haven't been taking much responsibility for Babble. Thanks for doing your best in my absence.

Bringing out the heavy duty technical jargon now?

I hadn't seen your post when I posted earlier.

It does seem to sum it up. My worldview shaped by an early overdose of spy novels. That's sobering.

Agree with jane d.

This board's attitude toward Bob seems to be summed up by Woody Allen's famous joke:

"Life is like a bad restaurant-- the food's no good-- and the portions are too small."

If Bob is around, he's no good; if he's not around, he should be around more.

On further reflection, does that mean the board has something in common with Alvy Singer?

Except Alvy is funny - humor seems to be generally absent here. Folks here seem to take themselves a bit too seriously. Lighten up!

Are you going to tell me that by using Google and pulling up 135,000 hits of "LOL" on Psycho-Babble since 1999 doesn't indicate to you the existence of humor in the community? That's 7 "LOL" jokes per hour. Of course, there is redundancy as sequential posts often carry forward subject lines and message bodies. It is quite possible that the type of humor seen here is unappreciated by you. That is no crime, of course. It might even represent a greater melding of yourself into mainstream society and away from mental health communities. However, I find humor, even self-deprecating humor, to be effective to help groups of people with the same illness to bond emotionally, to commiserate, and act to effect common proactive goals.

What would be the qualities of another person that would attract you to them as a colleague and fellow commiserater in a mental health forum? Perhaps you have no need of such things. Perhaps you are not as ill as many of the people you voluntarily surrounded yourself with at Psycho-Babble. On the other hand, perhaps you are more ill than you are aware of or are willing to admit.

Who know for sure?

Not me.

Although, much information can be garnered through observation of another person's writings and behaviors. I seem to do well at spotting bad, caustic attitudes. It's a gift. It helps me to choose to avoid or confront the negative energy that attempts to suck the positive energy out of everyone. The more people who capitulate to his behaviors, the better the perpetrator feels about himself.

My mirror is clean, and I often look in it to reflect upon my thoughts, feelings, and behaviors of the previous day. This allows me to make sdjustments in the way I operate, such that the light of new day shines its virginal light upon a better me. Of course, there will be many people who will feel that I am heading in the wrong direction. I verbalize my appreciation for their concern for my wellfare, give their suggestions some thought, and sometimes make adjustments. I then continue going about my process of self-actualization. This, I do in relative silence.

Writing can be so therapeutic!

It made me smile :) but I've always been easily amused.

13 years equals 113 955.566 hours. I believe your calculations are in substantial error. Do you stand by your conclusions?

Wow! I honestly have never seen a better example of "pedant" in my 59 years - I looked it up, and it said, "Also see: SLS". LOL!!!!!!!

I'll save you a lookup. From Merriam-Webster:

a) One who makes a show of knowledge

b) One who is unimaginative or who duly emphasizes minutiae in the presentation or use of knowledge.

As for me, I eschew obfuscation.

My calculations suck. Sorry. I think I meant 7 "LOL"s per day. Let me see if that works. Oh, crap. Only 1 "LOL" per hour. Who would really want read the boards for the entire day just to read the remaining 30. Linkadge, can you do the math, please. Consider it a spiritual quest.

Humor lies in the mind of the beholder. It might very well be true that Ron1953 finds very little material on Psycho-Babble that he finds humorous. I find plenty of humor on Psycho-Babble. It is humor that helps me survive my struggles while sporting a smile on my face. It really does help me diffuse thoughts of suicide and the prospect of leading an otherwise doomed existence. Suicide jokes can be particularly funny. The many "LOL"s we see on the Google search are indicators of people making human connections. No value can be placed on that.

Humor on Psycho-Babble might not resemble a vaudeville act, but it is in no way absent.

I don't think LOL counts are indicative of anything other than folks use the acronym way too often. More often than not, the use of LOL is not in reaction to something someone else said - people just seem to attach it to online posts, for meanings (if there is any meaning at all) that may only have significance to themselves. I've seen a gazillion posts with LOL, and I'll be damned if I know why the poster put it there.

See, Ron, you failed to see the humor in my proposal. I was sure it would give you a chuckle. But, alas, it did not. I don't think you ought to be commenting on the sense of humor of the Psycho-Babble community as whole as being absent when you cannot recognize silliness. Some people take themselves too seriously, you know? Of course, there is often truth in jest - or the lack in its recognition.

Thus lies one of the foremost problems with forums, email, etc. - lacking the nuance of facial expression, body language and voice inflection, misunderstandings often occur.

And I did consider that you were being silly, but I wasn't sure. In that case - good one!

I think I may have contributed a bazillion LOL's during my time here at Babble. LOL!

What can I say? I'm a mostly happy/silly person and I use my LOL's to indicate that.

I tend to LOL a lot in real life too. This is just the way I'm like.
