took too much medication, liver effect?

Posted by B2chica on January 27, 2011, at 8:42:34

so my depression is bad.
i was playing roulette with my meds last night.
i obviously woke up this morning (1). and what seems like no effects (2).

my question is could it do damage to liver or kidneys?

i dont know that i can list the amount but i can tell you i took way too much gabapentin and too much (but not that much) xanax.

i just wish someone would help me. i texted my pdoc 4 times and t 3 times. she txt me back once saying she was in meetings, and then i txt T why she wouldnt call me, and she said she was putting kids to bed. so she never called.

i called 4 other people and NO ONE answered.
i SO wanted to take more, but i started painting.
which actually leads me to another question. maybe i'll get introuble for this but i wonder if i'm in a way huffing to feel better. i work with oils (thus linseed oil and turpintine). and it seems the smells calm me down.

i wish i had internet at home and i could at least blog or write to you guys.... :(
still not well this morning.

any insight.

I don't think the xanax would hurt your liver. Don't know about gabetin. And you question I guess is inhaling paints. That and the meds could be bad for liver. I feel get that pdoc or gp and get liver enxymes checked and then get your therapist to discuss the paint issue which isn't good at all. Phillipa

just to clarify i dont purposefully "huff". but i have a small area i designated a paint room in our house and so there is really no ventilation and the fumes get pretty strong. but i notice a sense of calming that i get from that smell. maybe its actuallly from the painting, or maybe the smell reminds me of feeling good? dont know thats why i was asking.
i know the fumes arent good for ya but thousands of people use oil paints to do their work.

B2Chica thanks for clarifying. I didn't know you worked at home. I just hear that term all the time. Are you feeling okay today? No yellowing of eyes, skin, no clay colored stools? If not liver probably okay. I'm sorry you had an upsetting day yesterday. Phillipa ps I'd let the doc know for safety sake? As he/she knows you better than I

I wouldn't worry about any sort of effect of linseed and turpentine. You may just like the smell of turpentine. What brand are you using? You can get rectified or triple distilled, which have no odor. Did you buy it in an art supply or handware store? Turpentine smells terrible these days, but a few years back turpentine smelled fine.

I like the smell, but it won't make you high, if that's what you mean. The main long term effect of turpentine in an unventilated room could at worst be some lung congestion-- Do you have any ventilation or air purifier? Linseed is harmless as far as I know.

However, be careful about the paints.. Some oil paints are toxic if you ingest them, so clean your hands well before eating. Or wear gloves. Or use artguard, which gives some protection and makes them easier to clean.

thanks willful. i think i agree that i think that smell is just calming to me.
i also love the smell of gasoline and oil because my dad used to own a small engine shop.

i cant afford the fancy stuff i just go to hardware store and buy the gallon size.

good to know it wont hurt my brain.
oh and what a good idea! we do have an air purifier but i didnt think to put it in the room im working in, its in the next room (where the tv is) and i have it on in there. maybe i'll move it in to where i'm at but i dont want to kill the little thing with all the fumes.

ya i have a friend who minored in fine arts and he always tells me about the cadmium in its toxic and teases me to not lick my fingers when i paint..lol

thanks willful
b2c.

oh and both t and pdoc know about my med taking, im very open with them.
my t is ready to give up on me again say she cant help me (need hospital and stuff) but i NEED someone i can talk to about suicide. i wont do it, but i NEED to be able to talk about it without someone getting scared every other session.

my pdoc called and lectured me on my txting him.
but also bluntly told me he expected more from me regarding my behavior...to be honest... all his words were Exactly what i needed to hear. that i CAN bear all my abuse history. that i lived through it but its done. its DONE. i DONT NEED to go back there.
and i CAN deal with it in the here and now.
man i need that pdoc.
see him today at 3.

Your liver is fine. There are certain drugs that are hepatotoxic and those aren't. You down a bunch of acetaminophen with alcohol then you might be in trouble.

Need some more info about yourself to give you insight. I hope a little bit of peace finds you soon.

If you don't stop inhaling the paint or whatever it is that you are inhaling, you won't have to worry about your liver. Your brain will be dead and your lungs will shut down.

nice.
but considering how long oil paints and turpentine have been around, i dont know that there are a large percentage of part time artists that are brain dead, or on vents. :)
