Manic I can relate to you on this my 40 years of benzos but much lower doses and switching from one to another over the years they used to work well now they don't so taking minimal dose 2.5mg valium and l.5mg xanax at night with 50mg luvox and just can't get off it and fear of meds keeps me from even thinking of trying another. Too many scarey things. Phillipa

This should serve as a warning to ANYONE who thinks that benzodiazepines could possibly be the "answer". They are the PROBLEM, folks. I speak from experience also....

30+ years of xanax first 3mg. which is equivalent to SIXTY milligrams of valium!

Ativan 1mg. is equivalent to at least 10mg. of valium. I tried to get off xanax altogether several years ago and found that switching to valium slowly, step by step and reducing xanax according to the ASHTON method, made me feel worse than I have ever felt in my life.......my psychiatrist whom I went to to get off xanax, finally saw the amount of suffering I was going through and took me off valium (horrible stuff for me)and put me back to xanax l.5mg. (one-half the dose I had been on).

And I have been on it ever since. PLEASE do not take benzos unless you are ready to accept the consequences....addiction, yes folks call it what it is. try to go off is worse than heroin withdrawal. Google xanax or heroin which is worse to withdraw or similar and you will see. benzos are the last resort and should be a very temporary thing. I beg anyone to really think before taking any benzo. They are poison in my opinion.

Benzos-My opinion

Benzo's.............

In my opinion, (as someone once said about Stimulants) them is Nasty Buggers
(If you will excuse my language)
Especially the short acting ones like Alprazolam & Lorazepam

Its frustrating, because we really need something for anxiety, benzo's are about the only psychiatric drugs that work for acute anxiety.

I'd rather smoke Canniboid "legal highs" to deal with my anxiety, rather than take Benzo's.

I know that this is far from an ideal solution, but what else can I do..................

phillipa ,acording to abbys drug mg test you take more meds than me. 4 ativan is the same as 40mg valium //1an a half xanax is 45mg of valium plus your 2an a half brings you to 47mg an a half a day //you take 50mg of luvox the middle dose//i take 30 mg of citalopram less the the middle dose so your not on a low dos of meds when you look at it. if someone had told you you were on the eqiverlant of 47mg an a half valium ,which you are would that have shocked you

Oxcarbazepine is supposed to be helpful for benzo withdrawal

There is a study somewhere showing it helped withdrawal

No as my conversion is different as lmg of ativan equals .5 of xanax so I'm basically taking 2.5mg of ativan the valium is crumples of a pill. Also equivlencies of each ad are different. For example starting dose of prozac 20mg, luvox 50mg, paxil 20mg, effexor 37.5mg, zoloft 50mg, celexa was 25mg, lexapro 10-20mg. Each is equivalent in doseage. Just a different ad. Phillipa ps but this is a starting dose only and many docs now start at much lower doses to avoid side effects and abort a trial. Example goal for luvox up to 300mg, zoloft up to 200mg, effexor varies greating. Some take 40mg of paxil some higher. Based on what works for the patient if indeed the med is the right one.

Manic did do some googling last night on conversion and you are correct. Always willing to admit my mistakes. Since I read it I cut down .5 on xanax so now only lmg and took a bit more of valium as the weakest benzo. So thanks. Where did you find loss of taste and smell with luvox. Would you send a link or post, or e-mail? Thanks Phillipa
