Xanax 2mg

Posted by Rjlockhart on November 9, 2006, at 19:49:48

it helps, well first of all it wears off like, fast, but it helps.

I am prescribed 6mg (2mg X 3daily) but i dont take it that much.

Xanax i heard can be just additive, not to me i could go off, switch to Klonopin, or something.

BUT anyways needless i say anymore, it takes away panic attacks when coming. But i have realized sometimes if i dont take it over a period of days i feel im going to have a siezure.

I have heard Phenobarbital and Clonazepam are given.

Ativan may work for me. I have been on it 2 freaking times. 2003, 2005.

Anyways.

I need to go.

Matt

That's about 3mg of Klonopin and 60mg of Valium

More habituating and immediate gratification really. Valium would be a much better long term choice.

> BUT anyways needless i say anymore, it takes away panic attacks when coming.

That it will, for a PRN usage, like once or twice a week, but not constantly. Behaviour modification has to accompany too -- and that can be as simple as connecting steps in your mind as to what to do when a panic attack arrives. If you're at home and you're worried about something, go do something else, watch TV. etc. That sort of thing will reduce the need for constant PRN usage. Just an idea.

But i have realized sometimes if i dont take it over a period of days i feel im going to have a siezure.

Its unlikely you'll have a seizure as long as you take it a few times a week, but there is always potential if you take it constantly.

> I have heard Phenobarbital and Clonazepam are given.

Phenobarbital is definately dangerous in the wrong hands and is only given for seizure episodes these days. Yes, it acts on GABA and is not the most major barbiturate, but I will still say what I have said before that the line between an effective dose and a coma is much smaller with barbiturates.

All major benzodiazepines can be used for seizure episodes too, clonazepam, diazepam, alprazolam, etc.

Ativan is slightly less gratifying than Xanax, but it still is more than Clonazepam or Valium. And its half life is like less than 12 hours in real terms. Again, probably not one for a long term use, but PRN for panic episodes.

Hi J

For me, diazepam 'kicks in' more quickly than lorazepam after a single oral dose.

Curious... well you're probably fairly diazepam naive.... won't go further into that but I do take more obviously.

That's probably also an individual variant, I'm sure. Valium is given as sedation sometimes before dental visits or preoperative although Versed is more for that purpose.

Ativan is usually faster onset than Valium, but can vary; Xanax one site claims is as slow or slower than Valium, but personally enough of a Xanax dose is pretty fast acting.

So I think these things really have to do with cytochrome variations as much as anything else, and how much regular dosage of other cross-pollinating GABA agents one is taking

When I was on something like 60mg Valium I was a nervous wreck, too frightened for the supermarket, just terrified.
Caused by the Valium and relieved by it too.

That probably was a paradoxical reaction to the benzodiazepine, which is not completely out of the blue. But I'm glad it helped you. There's reason sometimes to be on high dose benzodiazepines, as long as one watches that it isn't escalation.

I dunno how paradoxical Yxi.

I wonder if you got a population of people and escalated their Valium dose to 60 or so, what proportion would turn into agoraphobes within a decade?

A very small amount. Agoraphobia generally is treated with things like SSRIs and benzodiazepines.

Something caused you to be presumably genetically / allergically reactive to this particular benzodiazepine. Paradoxical reactions are those that are counterintuitive and unexpected to a medication, but they do occur at a small rate with benzodiazepines in some people, as well of course as lots of other classes of medications.

Jean Lennane, a psychiatrist here, wrote up a report about a group of agoraphobes who were cured of their agoraphobia by withdrawal from benzos *eventually*.

Allergically reactive? Maybe. I certainly have allergies, no doubt aggravated by drug use.

For the proportions, I'd go for a minimum of 20%, but like I said, give it a decade to set in. Having said that, what do I know?

I want to avoid the pro/anti drug thing, of course.
