Spacey feeling

Posted by Edgefield on October 30, 2003, at 20:14:55

I hope that there is someone on this sight who has been totally healed from this spacey feeling called derealization. I'm taking Wellbutrin XL and Librax. Both meds. are working fine. Are there any suggestions?

I suffer from derealization (aka depersonalization). I totally understand what your going through. How long has it been going on with you? I have been having episodes ever since I can remember (about age 8 or 9). They can be really scary sometimes huh. I usually have them when I'm taking a bath or driving...odd combination. Basically, I'll be driving and look down at my arms and it feels like I'm really aware or like I'm observing someone elses arms... I'm sure you know what the feeling is. I'm taking a cocktail of drugs for other stuff, so I not sure what has made them less frequent. Here is a list of what I'm on:
Paxil, Geodon, Ativan, Klonopin
Like I said, I don't know which one is working for it, but I haven't had it in a while. Here is a website that I find very helpful to understand it: http://www.panicanxiety.com/depersonalization_derealization.htm
Let me know how things are going for you. Best of luck and God Bless.

I have depersonalization episodes and visual illusions on and off. The pdoc prescribed Seroquel to make them go away ... and they did but it also turned me into a zombie.... so I stopped taking them and decided to live with the illusions as they are better than the med side effects.

I have also found that I sort of feel the episodes comming. When I do, I grab something ... a pen, a ruler, my chair or whatever and squeeze it super hard ... to the point of pain ... and it helps me stay there ... and sometimes the episode will stop altogether.

I also find that they are more common if I'm tired ... so I try to get some sleep.

Elle thanks for the information.

My first dealing with this derealization came after a panic attack. I didn't know what was going on, but the next day I felt fine. I didn't have another attack for several years. When I did have another panic attack again it was quick, disturbing, but the next day I felt fine.

After the birth of my first child I started feeling spacey, but I wasn't having any panic attacks. It seems more intense outdoors in the sunlight. That soon subsided. Once again I went several more years without any panic attacks until one day....I started having them every day for months. This time the derealization lasted longer an I also had depression to contend with.

That went on for about a year as that feeling gradually subsided along with the panic attacks. I didn't have any problems again for several more years. This time I was placed on Librax which is for my IBS and that helped me tremendously!!!

My latest episode occurred after an adverse reaction to a medication last year August. Like before it is taking awhile for the derealization to subside. This recent occurrance seem more intense than in prior years due to a variety of things including the trial error of various ADs and benzos.

I wish that I could remember how long it took and what if anything I did differently to alleviate this feeling...completely. Thank God that it is subsiding.

Presently I'm taking Wellbutrin XL, Librax an a variety of vitamins and supplements which are helping.

I just wanted to make sure that I'm doing all that I could possible do to speed up this process. I know that this will completely subside as it has in prior year... I just want it to be now :)

Thanks for listening!

Hi Edgefield,
I have suffered from derealization and depersonalization since age 13- derealization is worse but- I have derealization 'attacks' like HUGE panic attacks and I feel as If I am on another planet- S0OOOooooo scary.

Good news: Nardil has melted away so much of the derealization and extreme phobic anxiety associated with it- It's amazing- Nardil rules!

Best,
Ace.

Hi,
I was diagnosed with depersonalization disorder along with other things. I've been spaced out most of my life. So far antidepressants have only made that worse, but I'm trying nardil now(day 4) and I'll see if that helps. The only drug that has helped so far is Klonopin. I take 3.5mg /d although I do feel its screwed with my creativity and drive to get anything done. Still its better than living in freaky depersonalization land.
Peace

I'm taking Wellbutrin XL also. I'm taking 150mg but thinking about moving up to 300mg. What dose are you taking?

I'm taking 300mg of Wellbutrin XL. I have been for about three or four months.

Thanks for the info. So the Klonopin totally relieves this symptom? I took klonopin for awhile, several months, an it didn't work that well for me.

Thanks Ace. So you are saying that Nardil has totally eliminated this symptom? I would say that mine is 90% gone. I just want this nagging 10% to also leave.

I wouldn't say it totally rid me of the DP. It just helps alot. I think it takes away the fear aspect that goes hand in hand with DP and excacerbates it. Hopefully this Nardil will help.
Good luck,
peace Mark
