Does anybody know the status of Cam W.'s litigation regarding the death of his daughter several years ago? I read a post of his above that he was going to be in Florida in October to have his deposition taken. I remember his posts soon after his daughter was killed. I felt almost ashamed to live here. I did recommend that he talk to a lawyer about his potential remedies, but I did warn him that litigation in Florida (as in most states) moves at a snail's pace. I hope it's going well for him, but it can't be fun for him to relive everything that happened. If you prefer to email me, let me know.

Just wanted Cam to know that his daughter is remembered by me, and that I have great sorrow for his loss and her too-young death. Thanks, Snowie, for remembering all that for us. So much happens over the years, and time speeds up, and I, at least, appreciate the opportunity you provided for me to extend my thoughts to Cam.

I miss Cam. I don't know how else to say it.
I think about him and what he and his wife must have gone through and it's just incredibly tragic.

And a big hello to Snowie..been a long time.

Snowie, thanks for reminding us--I had forgotten that Cam said he was having the deposition this fall. I also wonder how it is going. Litigation can be so emotionally challenging and also tediously drawn out, sometimes.

I thought of his daughter when I heard on the radio recently about the Miss Florida girl who was severely injured in a crash there. I guess because of what I heard from Cam, I was feeling sorry for this girl and her family, thinking that it would be hard to hold anyone accountable for their bad driving that caused the crash.

I hope Cam gets some justice. Actually someone once told me, "If you want justice, ask God. If you want a *decision*, go to court." There is no justice for taking of a life, but a decision in favor of some compensation in her memory would be better than nothing.

Shar, Phil, and Noa,

Cam mentioned something about arbitration, which is similar to litigation. I don't know what's happening but just reading his post brought back those memories. I think his daughter's name was Suzeanne. I hope it's going very well for him. It was a tragic accident, and, of course, no amount of money can compensate for the loss of a child, but it can certainly sweeten her memory, and hopefully save other lives.

Thanks for responding. You guys are the coolest.

I heard from Cam the end of last week and he said they were about to wrap things up...for this round. I imagine they should be home by now.

You know, there are so many good things about our country, I love that I live here. But when I think about the unimagineable travesty that the man that took Suzanne's life has not, and will not pay any price for what he did because of the way our laws are written, it saddens and embarrasses me. Cam and his wife are two of the finest people I've ever met, and they deserve better than this. I hope in some way that they, and Suzanne, get the justice they deserve.

Snowie, it's so good to see your name again. I hope life has been treating you well. All my best wishes to you and yours. You have been missed.

Hi Greg,

I haven't heard anything about it since I was regularly posting and reading posts here, which was a good 2-1/2 years ago or longer. I remember after the accident thinking that I myself was underinsured for liability coverage, and the first chance I had to rectify that, I did. I'm paying for it, of course, but I'd rather have too much insurance than not enough.

Of course, I don't recall or never knew many of the details of that night, so as to the driver's culpability I don't know or remember. Usually, the driver is at fault when someone is in a crosswalk, so it doesn't make sense that he wasn't charged with something. We have probably a similar crosswalk on Busch Blvd. that pedestrians use to and from Busch Gardens. During the weekends I often see people crossing without activating or waiting for the green light to cross. Because of that, I slow down when I come to this crosswalk. However, at night it would be difficult to see a pedestrian if the area wasn't well lit and/or if the crosswalk wasn't working or wasn't being used. In any event, it was a tragic accident, but hopefully something good will come of it.

It's good to see you again too, Greg. Hope all is well. Since you have Cam's ear, please let him know that we wish him and his family the best in all this.

I think what Greg said--embarrassment--is a good way to describe it. This event should never have gone on so long, the guy who was at fault should have been in jail since 2 minutes after the event, and the only fairness would be that Cam and his family get an apology from the guilty party, and from Disney, and whatever costs he incurred be reimbursed + more.

I'm sorry when big corporations can screw hundreds/thousands, and us/we/Cam are left to eke by with whatever we can afford to do.

Cam, I hope you are ok.

I believe another aspect of the case was that there was something wrong with the crosswalk lights, and that this had been reported to the municipality a number of times in the months prior to the accident, and they hadn't fixed them.

Also, I think there were witnesses who said that they had seen the truck driver driving aggressively just prior to the accident.

Noa,

That's my memory as well, that either the crosswalk or the lights weren't working properly, and that the municipality or resort knew or should have known about it, and taken immediate action to correct the problem(s) before someone was hurt or killed, which unfortunately did happen. I don't think this had anything to do with Disney. Seems like I remember Cam said the accident happened at a resort in Kissimmee.

If there were witnesses who saw the truck driver driving in an unsafe manner, I don't understand why he wasn't charged with something - vehicular manslaughter maybe. My memory is that he only had $10,000 worth of liability insurance. What a shame. It gives this great state a very bad reputation when tourists come here expecting to be safe and have a good time, and a tragic accident like this occurs that could have been avoided.
