Posted by alesta on January 21, 2005, at 14:26:55

hi lar:)

been a while, dude..good to see ya!:) anyway, i'm getting really worried lately, because i have had very poor nutrition over the past few months and eat *very* little every day, sometimes nothing. can this be causing me brain damage? will i go totally back to normal when i start eating better? my consumption is so low lately, i just can't think anymore (on top of everything else that's going on)..i almost want you to tell me what i want to hear..i'd research this myself but don't have the energy..please..put it kindly whatever you say...i kinda need a shoulder as well as an answer to my query..me scared. (I save the fun posts for you, lar.:-))

thanks, larsky,:)

Amy sweetie,

I will leave the bulk of your questions for Larry but I wanted to add a little advice here. Can you at least manage to take some multivitamins until you're able to eat better? I have been having trouble eating as well lately. If I didn't take the niacinamide right now which calms me down somewhat, I probably couldn't eat at all. You might be getting low on fluids and electrolytes so it would probably be a good idea to drink Gatorade or something like that also.

Please take care.

Kara

P.S. Even at your most stressed out, you still have a wonderful sense of humor. I cracked up when I read how you called Mr. Hoover "Larsky".

Amy,

I am so very sorry to hear that you are not doing well right now. I don't know enough about nutritional deficiencies to answer your question, but I agree with Kara that you should at least try to get a little something into your system. In addition to Gator-aide, you could pick up some meal replacement shakes (Ensure or Boost). I have gone through, and continue to go through, lengthy periods where I don't really eat (not because I don't want to, but rather that I can't), and in the past number of months, I have started using Ensure so that at least I am getting some nutrients. They aren't that hard to choke down, and it's better than trying to fix something to eat or trying to force down a meal when you just don't have it in you to do so.

Also, if you are really worried, you can go to the doctor and have your blood checked, particularly for levels of vitamins and minerals. This might put your mind at ease somewhat.

I know from some of your posts that you are in a difficult personal situation right now, and my heart goes out to you. I have been in a difficult and demeaning situation before, and I know the toll it can take on the body and mind. I don't mean to pry or stick my nose in, but can you get away from that scene by going to stay with family or friends or even a shelter for women (a safe haven where you would likely get 3 meals a day and have some time to heal)? It's hard I know.

Please take care of yourself Amy. My thoughts are with you.

Tamara

Amy dahling,
I'm sorry I misunderstood your situation. I thought you weren't eating because of stress rather than lack of money. Yes, definitely see if you can get into a shelter. Also, you might find help at your local NAMI office. They may be able to help you find a shelter, free medical care, food stamps etc. If you can feel better, then you'll be better able to put your life back together. I'm sure you know that though. Here's a blurb from NAMI's web site:

Information & Service Center
Trained volunteers provide information, referrals, and support to all who have questions about or are affected by serious mental illness. Call 1-800-950-NAMI.

Here's the link to the website:

My heart and thoughts are with you. Please report back to us soon.

Love ya,
Kara

(((Amy)))

Congrats on the job! That's great news, and I am incredibly happy for you. I so am glad to hear that things are starting to get better for you. It must be such a relief after all you have been going through. In reading your news, I am reminded of something I read years ago: "Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall". It sure isn't easy when we fall, but it feels real good when we manage to get back up again.

Be well Amy, take care and be very, very good to you. I wish for you much love, laughter, happiness and well-being in the days ahead. You deserve it.

"When you are in doubt, be still, and wait.
When doubt no longer exists for you, then go
forward with courage.
So long as mists envelop you, be still; be still until the sunlight
pours through and dispels the mists - as it surely will.
Then act with courage."

(Sorry, just had to share that. I've been reading it over and over for the past few months. I think it is actually beginning to sink in!)

Tamara

Amy,
I am SO HAPPY to know that you're doing better!!! That's so wonderful. When you didn't respond I was getting very worried but I figured that you might not have easy access to a computer. Anyway, I think it's going to be all uphill for you in this next year. Even if this job isn't all that you're capable of, it's a start. Please keep in touch and let us know how it goes.

Luv,
Kara

Oh dear, I shoulda maybe been paying attention.

Amesky, the body is a resilient thing, but there is a point beyond which mental fortitude and decision making must yield to hard cold facts. You won't do irrevocable damage to your brain, but why on Earth do you allow this situation to continue?

I'm concerned, hon. You don't wanna make me hafta come on down there and spank you, do you?
