Anyone tried it? Heard of it? Side effects? Positives? Negatives?

Thanks in advance for any info.

I took Buspirone, the generic for Buspar, for about 4 to 5 months. It was easy to get started on and it did help me for a while, then it stopped all of a sudden (right after I got it refilled, coincidentally).
The only side effect I remember having is that I guess sometimes it turned off the "edit" function in my brain. Sometimes I would say things that I really shouldn't have said and didn't mean to say. Nothing catastropic, just some unexpected sarcasm!
Good luck to you!

At maximum recommended dosage it didn't do anything at all for me. Absolutely no effect whatsoever. However, what was formerly diagnosed as generalized anxiety disorder has since been been diagnosed as the dysphoric part of bipolar with mixed states because I have no symptoms of anxiety except when I'm manic or hypomanic or mixed. After a while or taking the stuff, I mentioned to my doc that it didn't make any difference whether I took the stuff or not, and he said something along the lines of "yeah, in case there was a placebo effect at work with you I didn't want to ruin that effect, but now that you say it doesn't work for you, well, yeah ... I haven't had a single patient who had successful results with this drug beyond the first month or two."

Wow! That's interesting. My doctor had prescibed it to me yesterday, and I filled it, but after doing a lot of research on it, I'm not sure I want to try it.

Now that is very strange! This is going to make me dig out the forms for the buspar class action suit now! I can not believe it is still scripted!

I will post again!

I am on 60 mg/day. I feel it helps my depression more than anxiety. I take it with Lexapro

I take 30 mg, and consider it an antidepressant. Clonazepam is an anxiolytic.

but the lawsuit was only filed for money... it didn't have anything to do with the effects of the drug or it hurting anyone...

From what I read the case was settled, so those wanting a refund on paying a bit more for the same pills can get their money back.

I happen to like the med. It's mild. I don't have any withdrawal if I decrease or miss a pill. When I took it alone, it increased my libido. It does have a calming effect, but not what I would categorize as antianxiety. That's how I knew I was depressed, because I started taking buspar and I started to see colors more brightly and things calmed a bit. Now, when I went on a high dosage, I felt a bit aggitatated. When the Lexapro was added, that went away.

That's a good description of my experience of the med, except that when I took a high dose (for me: >30 mg) I became severely fatigued. Do you take the med two or three times a day?

Thanks for responding. I take 15 mg am and 15 mg right before going to sleep. I noticed that I always felt worse when I woke up if I didn't take it the night before.

I took a small dose twice a day for a while, the doc thought it would help my ADD and depression. At first I liked it, then I relized it made me more forgetful and when it first kicked in I would was not very nice. My brother put it as: I was writing checks with my mouth that my butt(put nicely) couldn't cash.
Sometimes it would help me sleep, other nights I would lay awake half the night.
I couldn't take the spacyness, so I stopped taking it. Seemed like I gained some weight on it too.

Buspar..Ha..don't waste your time...short lived and little help. The only benefit was a short period of excellent sleep. Anti anxiety benefits were zippo.......plus it was the beginning of the med weight gain cycle for me......Worthless!

Thanks for all of the feed back! I've found out a lot and don't think I want to bother with the med. I tried it a few days and I didn't feel anything except for not being able to sleep. And I really don't think I want to waste 5 weeks seeing if it will work. I see my doc again next week and hopefully we can try something else.
