DejaVu. Please help!

Posted by Lawrence S. on July 25, 2001, at 3:03:50

> > >I have posted before asking if anyone knew what causes the folowing symptoms:
A feeling like I am asleep and dreaming yet awake and feeling like I am doing the same thing over and over a gazillion times or more. It seems to happen out of the blue. Outdoors more often. It is so scarey that I feel like I'm becoming psychotic. It started on vacation about 7 years ago. I also have Marfans syndrome which causes my heart to not pump enough blood to my brain at times. Could this be a lack of blood to my brain?
Thanks to all the responders the last time I posted. LARRY

I definitely think that not having enough blood pumped to your brain could cause something like that. You've been checked out by docs right? Did they mention anything like this? Have you asked them? Someone who knows what they're talking about will answer, but I was on so...
When you're outside are you more physically active? Maybe your heart can't keep up and that's why it's more frequent outside? Not having enough blood=not having enough oxygen, not having enough oxygen in your brain=passing out, so maybe you're experiencing ALMOST passing out? Anyway, hope someone helps you out.

I get this now and then due to an anxiety disorder. Have you investigated that possibility?

I have thought that it was caused by anxiety all along since it seems to be less frequent on Klopnopin and A.D.s
I have my heart checked yearly for a dialated aortal root due to Marfans syndrome. My doc says I may need a new valve someday, since I have leakage.

Exactly a symptom - sorry to be the bearer of what might seem like bad tidings, but I do fine with it - TLE, Temporal Lobe seizures. I take a small dose of Neurontin. Ask anything you want.

Best,
Zo

I'm sure it could be from anxiety too. Sorry, I don't really know.

Zo, did you get periods where you become unresponsive to someone talking to you? Was it distressing when you got the deja vu feeling? Did you feel like you were going into REM sleep while standing on your feet?

James here....

I would run this by your Marfan doc to see if Marfans is the cause. Keep in mind that if you are on anticoagulant therapy adding other meds
can drastically effect your anticoagulant levels.

> Zo, did you get periods where you become unresponsive to someone talking to you?

Yes, in the sense that it was like being hypnotized, in a way. .. hard to interrupt.

>Was it distressing when you got the deja vu feeling?

No, 'cause I'm an arty type, I thought it was interesting.

Did you feel like you were going into REM sleep while standing on your feet?

TOTALLY! I used to feel like I had involuntary little naps with my eyes open. . .It was very strange.

Hi Lawrence,

I can tell you that the feelings you are experiencing ara
called depersonalization. The question is what
is causing this depersonalization. It could be
caused by Temporal Lobe Epilepsey, or it
could be cause by a psychological disorder like
anxiety, depression, or OCD. Or it could be the
Marfans. Whatever it is, I know that it is very
distressing, since I also have this problem. Mine
is caused by anxiety/OCD/depression. I recommend
you talk to your doctor about this. Also, the
web site:

http://www.dpselfhelp.com/

has other fellow depersonalization sufferers. The
good thing is that you know you are not alone.

Good luck,
dude

Just thought I'd add, I am also Photosensitive TLE, which is not common, but makes it easier to trace. . .are flickering light and shadow connected to the "spells?"

Sleep deprivation?

Hyperventilating? (Used to get them when I swam laps, I was breathing too shallow.)
