Susan, your poem has inspired my reaction. Thankyou for giving me voice. I hope you don't feel like the victim of my writing.

The Look:
Hidden behind the facade of professionalism
Pushed aside by greed and self preservation
Shaded in the stoic stance,
but there nonetheless
to surface when least expected
when passion meets presence
or circumstance meets opportunity

As the ray of light that penetrates the darkness
the look is always there somewhere.
to be seen if desired.

Transference from one to another's eyes
from one to another's soul
the look that goes both ways
both evil and good.

When I see God's love in your eyes
I only see you.
but my search unknowingly remains
believing he does not exist
until death.

I know God's look
I see it in the eyes of a child
and in the beauty of the landscape
swaying in the breeze
as a whisper.

I know God's love
I feel it as I do my duty
as I love my own
and as I serve my fellowman.

I know god's spirit
It whispers right and truth
and leads the way
to God.

Why do I get so confused and think so often that other men meet my godly needs?
Why do I see my father's love in the look of others?
Why do I transfer my own longing desire for a father's love and God's love to the moment?
What a flood of emotion waiting and lurking,
ready to be dumped on the next victim.

Fathers, love your children
meet your children's needs
before you die.
lose yourself in the lives of your children
don't worry about the heartache world you live in
don't frett over being screwed by your brother
and betrayed by those you trust the most.
Forget all of that
and love your children
so they can love theirs.
If that is all we accomplish in life
we succeed.
because God is real
and the look really does count.
