Effexor did nothing to prevent hot flashes in my case. I had them throughout perimenopause (10 years), big soakings day and night. If the pill did anything to help me during that period, I was fooled. I know women are precribed antidepressants to help with perimenopausal symptoms. If I could, I'd tell them to tough it out rather than having to go throw withdrawal if/when they decide to stop.
