and high jump, too. uninstructed scissor technique. then you meet the kids who actually trained athletics who learned to flop and totally outclassed, again.

i said to my mother about how i rememembered swimming a lot with Dad when i was a kid. and yeah, he taught me to dive from the side of the pool and how to breaststroke etc, yeah.

she reminded me how she used to take me to skateworld. roller skating. and yeah, she did. like maybe once a month, or something like that. there was a 4 hour session, thing. and she'd get out there and drag me around (she didn't have skates on) and I literally got dragged up learning to roller skate. and they would have these competitition things and i would always win the roller skate limbo. in the early years because i was the smallest thing on roller skates. in later years because i actually had pretty good skill / balance. not that i did the splits, but anyway...

but then i remember the day a lady from the club, there, showed me the circles and about how you could go around the circles on one leg... and that's a different level of skill, entirely.

and my mother didn't like that.

and i didnt really do roller skating after that. but i remember from school a kid did figure skating a couple years down the track and i was blown away at what she could do and it was a different thing entirely.

and a lot of people do just sort of shy away and give up right when things start to get really interesting. right where the hard work really has the potential to pay off.

my mother really just doesn't get it. i wasn't allowed to do anything... especially not to do with horses (my real passion). but not to do with anything... especially not when it involved developing or extending something i showed a genuine sort of ability and malleable interest in...

horrible woman.
