I don't really remember pig and fertilizer smells, but I do remember the very weird smell of Cedar Rapids. Quaker Oats, I think. Who would think oats would smell that bad? (Actually, now that I think about it, it seems unlikely that it was Quaker Oats. Some cereal, anyway. Purina Dog Chow?)
Why do you need to be sober for a year before you give yourself the gift of living in a place you love? Maybe you haven't given yourself enough gifts. Don't mean to be presumptuous, but I think it's time for you to be kinder to yourself.
