Well, I guess it's a regional thing.

Here's a fairly typical recipe for the filling:

The problem is, there are butter tarts, and there are magic butter tarts. I don't quite know what the difference is. I made Martha Stewart's butter tarts once, and they weren't magic. Hmmmppfff.

I suspect that the *real* butter tart recipe is a closely guarded secret, and fake ones are circulated to placate the masses. I have not yet found a copy of the *real* magic butter tart recipe.

These magic ones are deep. Maybe an inch. With a pool of just-on-the-verge-of-runny-but-not-quite......oh-there-it-goes gooey goodness.

Hard to describe, but now I need to have another one.

Yes, I have lots of different teas to choose from, or coffee. Too bad y'all can't just swing on by.
