Maybe you could kill him with kindness. Slip a Christmas card under his door. That's what I'd do in this situation. Sign it with something like "Let's start the New Year off right! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year." And try your best to mean it. I know that bosses can be jerks (trust me, I've had my share (one who interupted me in the restroom because I had a client call me back and it wasn't an important call...and he KNEW it)... But, maybe he'll see the card as a kind gesture. Or maybe he'll see it as you being condescending. Either way, you're the better person :)
