Jay, if you've been wrongly fired, isn't there some mediator you can take it up with? I really don't know the legal system in the States at all (if you live there) but here in Canada, it can be challenged & they can be forced to rehire you if it was unfair. Many employers try to get around that by 'laying' the person off & saying things have slowed down, but it doesn't always work.
You can try Lili's suggestion too.
