Pain is part of life, but suffering is a choice???

Posted by Kath on October 22, 2008, at 19:40:16

"Pain is part of life, but suffering is a choice."

I've recently seen that a couple of places here.

When I read this, this is what goes through my head:

"OK Kath, pain is part of life - get it? So you deal with it. You experience it & you cope. You don't complain. You certainly don't feel sorry for yourself. You 'stuff' all that stuff! You shove it all away. You be STRONG.

If it's too much & you feel it as suffering, then you're weak & self-indulgent & self-pitying & pathetic.

Get ON with it!! Ok, so life hurts sometimes. Get a grip."

Those words feel like they're coming from a very young place & I didn't even experience anything like that attitude when I was young.
