Well....
My initial response to that is probably a result of TOTAL projection. But having lived through nightmarish transference, all I can say is I would have loved to have people like you to bounce this stuff off of while it was happening. If I were in your shoes I might be a teensy bit put off by that remark, because I think it would make me feel helpless. As though, it's just me and him and he doesn't want anyone to step in and help me make sense of the transference. As though he's making light of it the whole thing, "it's not that bad, let's work on it" when in reality, maybe for me it would be much more confusing and painful.
But I don't know the extent of how it is for you, so maybe you can see the value in that remark.
Like I said, I'm projecting.
