I love you, but that drives me CRAZY! My mother-in-law says it that way, too. I have no idea which is "proper". I just know it's almost like nails on a chalkboard to me.

I'm weird that way.

Regarding Bentsen's comeback to Quayle...in the Ohio gubernatorial (sp?) debate last week, the Republican candidate, Ken Blackwell, appeared to have been "saving up" a similar zinger. His rebuttal to one of Ted Strickland's answers to a question posed by the panel was to say that he knew Roy Rogers and that Dr. Strickland was no Roy Rogers. I thought, "Humminahh?" Dr. Strickland comes from a humble background and from the same area of Ohio that apparently Roy Rogers came from. Perhaps Strickland previously said something comparing himself to Roy Rogers. But it just made no sense to me in the context of a rebuttal to Strickland's answer. It really seemed like Blackwell just couldn't wait any longer to deliver that line, regardless of whether it "fit" in that moment. It certainly lacked anything near the Bentsen's delivery of that classic.

Oh, and Ted laughed at the "zinger". Good for him. :)
