In reply to Sorry for so many posts but one more question, posted by kiwiredbeach on October 18, 2006, at 21:42:14
Hey
> Any tips or ideas to improve absorbtion of zinc would be greatly appreciated
Man, its complicated...I'm too tired to remember all the details, and I don't have my nutrition books with me at the mo, but buy this book :
"the optimum nutrition bible" by this guy called Patrick Holford.....the links are to the Amazon in the USA, but obviously you can buy this book in the UK (the author is British - in fact, any nutritionists with the letters ION after their name trained at the school he started for nutritional training...you ever seen 'the food doctor' or his products he trained there anyway)
Its a good start with nutritional issues (which BTW don't bother seeing a nutritionist...everything you need to know is essentially in that book, and you seem smart enough and its not hard to understand...)
Buy a good (i mean very good) multivitamin/mineral in the forms that are easily absorbable - they'll be more expensive but hey.
I actually get mine from highernature (google it).
Zinc definciey is the most common definciey (sorry I can't spell!) around in developed countries.
Magnesium is supposed to be fanatastic for anxetiy issues. Jlx has had an absolutely positively fantastic response to magnesium.
Larry Hoover (a very respected ex-poster) didn't really rate those hair mineral analysis things, in fact he was rather critical of them but hey. I have no idea, I've always been too skint to have them done. I'd personally go on symptoms. Although sub-clinically they might be harder to spot.
Have you thought about fish oil too?
just some ideas....
Kind regards
Meri
