I use a post-excercise recovery drink that includes whey protein and maltodextrin and it also has added glutamine.
I use this after any workout in excess of 60 minutes and I get 3000-6000mg of L-glutamine. After a 60 minute workout, I'd get 3000mg, but I take twice as much after my weekly long run, and I get 6000mg then. I drink this late in the morning and I never have problems falling asleep.
