I'm waiting for results from 24-hour cortisol saliva test but am pretty sure I'm hyper. I've been able to take about 400mg licorice in the morning, have my symptoms (anxiety, etc) continue long after the usual 6pm and felt very good (normal) the next day.
I believe the licorice extends the cortisol late enough that the feedback HPA lowers levels on the next day. I was just wondering what the activity of the 11 beta-HSD enzyme was if anybody had any information on timeframes for the feedback mechanisms.
If one has a high cortisol profile I'm assuming there is something wrong with the HPA that has altered one's diurnal production. Wouldn't the feedback be near immediate once high cortisol is detected the 11 beta-hsd is released? Or is the next day theory plausible (I got the idea from reading Cpt. David Williams article about adrenal fatigue/cfs).
And how long would the licorice inhibit the 11 beta-hsd?
