Howdy! I'm no expert on magnesium. I have played with it a few times though and have read many previous threads on it.
Magnesium glycinate is a favorite of many people. The glycine component helps the magnesium to be even more calming. Another favorite is magnesium taurate...the taurine itself is good for bipolar. Some people use magnesium citrate. For dosing, you just have to keep increasing it until you get diarrhea, which means the dose is too high, or until you get side effects. People take anywhere from 200mg to 1000mg a day.
I am very sensitive to magnesium. I definitely give it credit for being calming. It's awesome for that. But it also gives me leg cramps and worsens my depression. I can only take small amounts of it. Most people have no problem with it though.
