I am trying using a book called "The Artist's Way" and the morning pages (which you write) do help me "channel" much of what I have pent up inside. You aren't even conscious of it, you let you mind do the wandering and your hand do the writing, and you'd be surprised at what ends up on the paper.
Also I find yoga can be cathartic.
