a psych told me that high doses of lamictal can curb mania and hypomania. lower doses are more appropriate for some forms of recurrent depression, without the same risks/adverse effects as the antidepressants.
fun tidbit: some animal data seems to show that lamictal+neuroleptic= less D2 upregulation than just the neuroleptic. I'm not gung ho about adding a -serious- pharmaceutical to a neuroleptic unless necessary, but...
it does kind of line up with the concept of 'tardive psychosis,' you know...take a neuroleptic long enough, one may very well end up (more...) inclined towards psychosis and such than before treatment...
so, if the lamictal can reduce D2 upregulation and provide some mood elevation, etc., maybe help keep the neuroleptic dosage a bit lower (?), then...yes, please.
i personally have always declined lithium. scares me, honestly.
