Hi, B2C.

Have you ever tried Ritalin (methylphenidate)? How did it affect you?

I did not react well to Ritalin. It made me a bit agitated, but did not make my depression worse. Focalin (dexmethylphenidate), on the other hand, helps me. Although the improvement lasted only 5 hours, there wasn't a severe crash afterward. However, there is now a long-acting preparation called Focalin XR. I found Focalin to be much "smoother" than Ritalin.

I agree with others along this thread that you will most likely need an antidepressant. I should think that Effexor or Parnate would help. Personally, I like the idea of combining Effexor with either Wellbutrin or nortriptyline. If you don't want to try Effexor for some reason, Lexapro or Zoloft would make reasonable alternatives.
